Minnesota Section PGA awarded Special Olympics Minnesota 2009 Outstanding Service Award - Organization
The Minnesota Section PGA has been awarded the 2009 Outstanding Service Award - Organization by Special Olympics Minnesota for efforts in fundraising,
public relations, event management and/or sponsorship activities with Special Olympics Minnesota. Criteria for the award includes making a positive
impact on athletes and volunteers through a significant contribution (time and resources) to Special Olympics Minnesota, and providing outstanding service
to Special Olympics Minnesota athletes and volunteers. continued

PGA Golf Professional of the Year
The Minnesota Section of the PGA has announced their Section award winners for 2009. Dick Walters, PGA Professional at
Wayzata Country Club in Wayzata, MN will be awarded Minnesota PGA Golf Professional of the Year for the first time. Joining
Walters as 2009 Section award winners are; Section Teacher of the Year Dee Forsberg-Voss, PGA Teaching Professional at University
Golf Club in Larpenteur, MN, Section Horton Smith winner Rod Lidenberg, PGA Professional at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, MN.
Section Bill Strausbaugh Award winner Nora McGuire, PGA Professional at Phalen Park Golf Course in Saint Paul, MN, Section Junior
Golf Leader Brian Simpson, PGA Professional at Highland National Golf Course in Saint Paul, MN, Section President’s Plaque winner
Jay Meyerhoff, PGA Professional at Medina Golf & Country Club in Medina, MN and Section Assistant Professional of the Year Eddie
Wynne of StoneRidge Golf Club in Stillwater, MN.
Section Facility Promoter's of the Year will be awarded to Henry Orme, Golden Valley Golf & Country Club in Golden Valley, MN in
the private facility category, Jack Wawro, Pines at Grandview Lodge in Nisswa, MN in the resort category, and John Young, Balmoral
Golf Course in Battle Lake, MN in the public category.
2009 Section Players of the Year are Jeff Sorenson, Columbia Learning Center in Minneapolis, MN in the regular division,
Bill Israelson, Vintage Golf Course in Staples, MN in the Senior division and Ben Meyers, Medina Golf & Country Club in Medina, MN in the assistant’s division.

STEVE WEIDNER AWARD INFORMATION |
The Minnesota Section is now accepting nominations for the Steve Weidner Award. The award recognizes individuals in the golf industry for
their contributions to the game of golf and their community. If you believe you know someone who should be considered please fill out the nomination
form and forward it to the Minnesota Section PGA office. The deadline for nominations is February 15, 2010.

HEINZ/SORENSON FINISH SECOND IN WINTER STROKE PLAY EVENTS |

Minnesota Section members Jennifer Heinz of TPC Twin Cities and Jeff Sorenson of Columbia Learning Center both finished tied for second in the PGA of America Winter Stroke Play Championships held at PGA Village in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Heinz finished the 54-hole Womens Stroke Play Event at 7-over par 223, six shots behind winner Julie Peluso of Huntington Station, NY. Section Apprentice Lauren Baugh of Hastings CC finished tied for fifteenth at 23-0ver par 239. Final Results
Sorenson, the two-time Section Player of the Year, finished the 72-hole Mens Stroke Play Event at 9-under par 279, three shots behind winner Frank Esposito of Florham Park, NJ. Section member Kris Kroetsch of Fargo CC finished tied for forty-ninth at 7-over par 295. Final Results
