20-year-old Van Holmgren bumps up to first place at 9-under after Round Two of the Minnesota State Open.
Today Holmgren resumed his second round with 13 holes remaining at 2-under, feeling good.
“I was hitting really good putts, but they were burning edges, lipping out,” said Holmgren. “Hit the ball great. Around the green I’m really just hitting, making my short putts and chipping it well, so I’m keeping it under control.”
He finished his second round with a 67, shooting one better than his Round One total of 68.
Round Two play resumed at 7:30 a.m. today at the 2019 Minnesota State Open. Yesterday’s morning thunderstorms delayed play until 1:15 p.m., pushing afternoon tee times to begin at 5:30 p.m. Darkness at 9 p.m. halted play until this morning.
Holmgren sits in first place with a one stroke lead. Yesterday’s leader Brady Madsen finished 1-under and is tied for second with Tyler Leach, who shot an impressive 6-under today.
Round Three will begin at 12:30 p.m. today, with the leaders starting at 2:10 p.m.
“I want it,” said Holmgren. “I’m not playing anyone else. I’m just playing the course. I’m excited for the opportunity to chase the trophy.”
The Minnesota State Open is presented by Grand View Lodge and supported by Sterling Cut Glass and Parway Golf.
