MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Jeff Drimel, PGA
2010 PGA Merchandise Show
It was great seeing the Minnesota PGA contingent at the 2010 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando! As always, the discussions during and after the Show, were very enlightening and enjoyable.

The week started with some Pro-Pro events that enabled players the chance to enjoy some nice Florida golf courses, "lean on their partners" in BB events as well as meet some other fellow professionals from around the country. "Networking" seems to be a buzz word that gets thrown around quite a bit but in discussing many of the issues in our business today, it seems that we are not alone. Actually, golf in our region seems better than most areas. Although we are each managing our own situations, budgets and so on, we need to keep in mind that WE are the ones to see things through.

As the Show began, there seemed to be; less vendors, less buyers, and more cautious purchasing on the part of those in attendance, no surprise there. It was great to see the supporters of the Show including Titleist, Callaway, PING and the other usual companies. Also, companies such as Teemark, Imperial and plenty of clothing companies provided our usual cast of sales representatives ready to assist.

Three items, my personal feelings, were important to note:
1. Lack of BUZZ - Nothing jumped out to me, or many of those in attendance.
2. Education and Seminars - I was amazed at the number of educational opportunities. It seemed that you could always attend something near the Equipment stage, find a seminar in the hallway rooms or even listen to Scotty Cameron or Bob Vokey about golf equipment. If someone needed points, this was the place to be...
3. Candidates for Secretary of the PGA of America - There were numerous opportunities to meet the candidates and get their thoughts on the PGA of America. We are very proud that Mike Zinni is in the running and look for your support in his election.
All the Best!
