Nominations

How it works

At the 2024 Annual Meeting, the Minnesota PGA Board has four seats up for election for two-year terms. The positions of Secretary, Southern District Director, and one at-large seat that represent members throughout the Section. The Dakota Chapter seat (that will be voted on at the Dakota Chapter Meeting held in September). To run for a local district seat, candidates must reside and work in the area the board seat represents. Candidates must also be a Class A PGA Member.

The seats up for election include:

  • Secretary, currently held by Kellie Hoiness
  • At Large seat, currently held by Grant Hanson
  • Southern District Director, currently held by Greg Snow
  • Dakota Chapter Seat, currently held by Tom Blank (that will be voted on at the Dakota Chapter Meeting held in September)

President Nominees

Scott McDonald, PGA – Rypstick Golf

For the last 10 years I have had the privilege of serving our Section. It all started when my first pro-am at Minnewaska GC was won by a team of sandbaggers. I had to get involved! It took 2+ years of pestering before I finally got on the tournament committee. Shortly thereafter I felt the call to get on the Board of Directors. These past 8 years I have served as your Northern Director, At Large Director, Secretary, Vice President, and now hopefully your President. I believe in a life of service and truly love our Section. I have been blessed to be a part of some amazing initiatives: 100 Holes for Hope, PGA HOPE, and the PGA Reach NYC Marathon team. We have one of the greatest sections of the 41 and I hope someday we will be regarded as the best. I promise that I will do everything I can to continue to grow the game and serve our members. Thank you for your friendship and support.

Kellie Catron Hoiness, PGA – Oak Ridge Country Club

We have a lot of wonderful things going on in our Section and I feel that the past 25 years in the business have prepared me for this role. When I think about what is important to our membership, three things come to mind:

  1. Quality of life – The founding principles of the PGA were to elevate the standards of our members’ vocation. That comes with better jobs, higher compensation, and increased playing opportunities. We cannot grow the game until our members are taken care of FIRST.
  2. Communication – There cannot be trust without transparency and communication. As a member owned organization it is our duty as leaders to keep everyone informed.
  3. Lastly, Community – we were built as a fraternal organization to take care of one another and provide a sense of belonging. Looking after one another does not stop when we leave the golf course. I care about our Section and want to be a part of something great. Serving the members and growing the game is especially important to me.

As someone passionate about both golf and community leadership, I would love the opportunity to serve as Secretary of the Board for the Minnesota PGA Section. I am committed to supporting the growth of the game and fostering a strong, collaborative environment among PGA professionals in our section. As Secretary, I would bring my 27 years of experience, passion and genuine desire to contribute to the board’s vision and strategic goals. I believe my experience will help our section continue its positive impact on both the local golf community and beyond. Thank you.

Tim Vernon, PGA – Yamaha Golf & Utility

My desire to run for the office of Secretary for the Minnesota Section of the PGA comes after 27 years of PGA Membership and with one theme: Members First. I feel as an officer I can expand on my section support by working with my fellow board members to ensure we provide the tools and resources to Section members who are on the frontline promoting the game, doing amazing work day after day and promoting the great programs our Section offers. My ultimate goal is that every individual in our Section can be successful with a good work life balance and have a great career enjoying and growing this great game that we all love so much. I would appreciate your vote and my sincere thanks for considering me.

Grant Hanson, PGA – Geneva Golf Club

As I seek reelection to the board, I reflect on the progress we’ve made over that past two years. It has been a pleasure to serve as the tournament chair and work hand in hand with Tone, the sections staff and the tournament committee. We have found ways to get more members exempt into golf champions, grown the Twin Cities Open, increased purses through new partnerships and tournament participation is at an all time high. On the tournament front, if reelected, I plan on pursuing another social event that more members can participate in. It is my goal to find creative ways for each member to grow their personal network by providing more chances to meet section professionals. Our section is strong and filled with great people.  It is a shame that we do not know everyone on a first name basis.

This past term has equipped me with valuable insights and experience that I believe are crucial for serving on the board. Our section and golf are both in a great place. It is time to leverage both golf’s popularity and our sections strength to provide more value to our members. If reelected, the most important question I will be asking no matter the topic will be “how does this benefit our members”.

I am excited about the opportunity to continue this journey; your support and vote is greatly appreciated.
